Late-night talk show host Jimmy Kimmel will host the 2012 Primetime Emmy Awards on Sept. 23, ABC announced Monday.

Kimmel, 44, who has previously hosted the ESPY Awards and the American Music Awards, has big shoes to fill since Glee‘s Jane Lynch hosted the awards in 2011.

Director/producer Don Mischer will executive produce the telecast for the 12th time.

I think Kimmel is the perfect fit. He’s funny without being too inappropriate for primetime.

During his recent appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! comedian Martin Short unapologetically plugged his current “passion project”, which he wrote, directed and starred in himself.

“Jersey Short”

The 3:30 mock-trailer, in which Short plays all six Jersey Shore characters is frighteningly spot on.  From his six-pack “Situation” to his mile-high Pauly D hair, Short’s…short is nothing…short of hilarious.   And somehow the spoof isn’t any more ridiculous than the real thing.  The “Snooki” character may give birth to a pickle baby fathered by “Vinny“, but that’s nothing worse than what we’ve seen before, right?

By the way, Martin Short is 61 years-old.  If this is his way of shaking his fist at the younger generation – he nailed it.

Talk show host Jimmy Kimmel was forced to evacuate a French Polynesia small island in the middle of the Pacific Ocean due to a massive Tsunami wave created by the 8.9 earthquake in Japan.

Jimmy was apparently relaxing in the small island when the earthquake happened. He initially joked about the situation on Twitter. He wrote, “Suddenly, relaxing on an island in the South Pacific isn’t so relaxing anymore. Good thing I brought my aqua stilts.”

Of course, Jimmy was bombarded with messages from shocked Twitter users all over the world. Jimmy tried to explain he was right in the middle of the whole ordeal. He said, “I am on an island in French Polynesia, glued to CNN. thanks again for the concern – I am now worried others will worry if I don’t tweet – but if I don’t, don’t.”

When asked on a scale of 1 to 10 how scared he was, Jimmy replied, “A good solid 7. on a small island, with no high ground.” Oh no! Finally, the talk show host announced they were being evacuated from the island. “We are evacuating the island. dogspeed.”

Talk show host Jimmy Kimmel, who put an end to his relationship with Sarah Silverman earlier this year, confirmed that he has been dating a longtime staffer of “Jimmy Kimmel Live”, named Molly McNearney (photos below), for several months. Molly started working as an assistant of the show back in 2003, began writing in 2006 and was finally promoted to head writer in 2008.

A source revealed, “After Jimmy and Sarah broke up, Molly and Jimmy both found themselves single, and they clicked. They’re really happy together.” It seems like Jimmy came clean with his office romance because of the recent David Letterman sex scandal (read more details here), but the insider says, “during work hours, they keep things professional.”
