Reports have surfaced claiming that American Idol executives planned to replace Mariah Carey with former judge Jennifer Lopez mid-season after their ratings took a major drop.

Insiders claim that Carey threatened legal action after she caught wind of the speculation, which secured her spot until the end of the season. The sources also said Lopez is in negotiations to appear on the season finale in May.

Carey’s rep has denied rumors of her being dropped from the show, as has Fox, whose spokesperson said in a statement: ”This is just another ridiculous Idol rumor, likely started by talks of Jennifer performing on the finale.”

The first photo of the new American Idol judges was released yesterday. The panel now includes Mariah Carey, 42, Keith Urban, 44, Nicki Minaj, 29, and Randy Jackson, 56.

The foursome was photographed at the judges table in midtown NYC with their host, Ryan Seacrest, 37. ”After some musical chairs, here’s how the new American Idol judges will be seated,” Seacrest wrote underneath the photo on Facebook.

“With the exciting addition of Mariah Carey, Keith Urban and Nicki Minaj, alongside Randy Jackson, American Idol‘s star power has never been so great,” executive producer Simon Fuller said in a statement.

Pop singer Mariah Carey confirmed Monday that she will be replacing Jennifer Lopez as a judge on the hit reality show American Idol.

The announcement was made at the Television Critics Association summer tour in Beverly Hills during comments by Fox Entertainment President Kevin Reilly.

“We do, in fact, have one judge whose deal closed very, very recently,” Reilly told reporters. “It’s an artist that many contestants have tried to emulate, have tried to have sung the songs, have tried to hit the notes and because it really was concluded only hours ago, our judge couldn’t be with us.”

He then put a phone call on speaker phone, where Carey’s voice could be heard.

“I am so excited to be joining Idol,” she said. “First of all, I wanted to be there today and I wish I could’ve been there to tell you, but I think you know this all kind of just happened real quickly, so I can’t wait to get started in a couple months.”

Carey is the first judge to be confirmed for the next season of the show. Lopez announced her decision to leave earlier this month, along with the Steven Tyler. Randy Jackson, who has been with the show since it’s creation, is said to be on the fence about returning.

Mariah Carey and her husband Nick Cannon celebrated their fourth wedding anniversary by renewing their vows atop the Eiffel Tower in Paris, France.

“Tonight was an incredible night,” the singer Tweeted. ”I can’t express how amazing it was to renew our vows in Paris at the top of the Eiffel tower.”

In a photo before the ceremony, Carey, posed in a white satin mermaid gown with a black bow around the waist. Cannon was wearing a white tuxedo with a black bow tie.

“The first week, I lost 40 lbs. … of just water,” Carey says. “It was just water, initially. When I started with the program, I lost at least 30 lbs. of weight that needed to be lost.”

So, Mariah basically lost 30lbs and feels better than ever now that she is a mother to two wonderful babies. The “Butterfly” singer claims losing weight after the pregnancy wasn’t all about vanity, but it was all about being healthy and feeling good in her own skin.

“The whole point of this is not just like: ‘Oh, hey, look at me and my weight loss, I’m fantastic.’ It’s really health. Like I said, I learned it when I became helpless and felt so vulnerable like never before in my life.”

Mariah Carey is known for her childish antics, strange behavior and her love of pink. But some are saying that she is taking it too far with her latest ad for her newest fragrance called Lollipop Remix. The bottles have the typical bright colors, along with a butterfly design for the lid. However, it is her photo in the ad that has some people questioning her sanity.

Mariah who tweeted the news of the photo, was excited for the debut.of it. In the photo she is wearing a white tank top with lace trim and sucks on a lollipop. Of course many are saying that for a 41 year old, mother of 2 that this is too young.  Some have even called it a Lolita pose, while others say the photo was taken during the Rainbow phase of her career.

Okay, I am not crazy about her photo-but at least it was mostly clean. Not like some ads I have seen for scents or even music videos. Britney Spears was way more Lolita with her “Baby…One More Time” music video. Or what about the Glee magazine cover issue? Granted, the image is in poor taste-but we have all seen worse and it could be a 10-11 year old image reused. She did just have had babies, I am not sure if she would want any photo shoots recently done or not.
