Olympic champion Michael Phelps was involved in a three-car crash at around 9pm in Baltimore, MD on Thursday (August 13). Michael’s black Cadillac Escalade and a Honda Accord collided hitting a third car that was stopped at the intersection of East Biddle Street and West Calvert Street in Downtown Baltimore.

Michael was not injured in the crash, refused medical treatment and left the scene after talking to cops. A woman in the other car, who was pretty shaken up, complained about head and arm pain and was taken to a local hospital. The cause of the accident is still unknown but cops have guaranteed alcohol was not an issue.

UPDATE: Michael Phelps just told he is happily single and the rumors are not true. He is not dating Carrie Prejean or Caz Pal: “I’m not dating anybody,” he told Usmagazine Wednesday at the opening of the Omega flagship boutique in NYC. “I’m single. My private life stays private.”

The controversial Miss California/Miss USA 2009 first runner-up, Carrie Prejean, is dating record Olympic medalist Michael Phelps. Carrie’s grandmother, Jeanette Coppolla, has confirmed Carrie is “casually” dating and is aware of Michael’s womanizer reputation.

“Carrie and Michael have been out to baseball games and lunch,” Coppolla said. “He always calls her when he is in town and they go out.”

“Carrie knows that he has dated a lot of girls but she enjoys going out with him and isn’t serious about being in a relationship with him,” she added. “He’s a nice guy and she likes him.”

The Olympic champion and the beauty queen: I think it’s a match made in heaven. Miss Carrie made her point about gay marriage at Sunday’s Miss USA pageant, we wonder what’s her opinion about smoking weed. A couple of months ago, Michael were involved in a major scandal when he was caught with a bong (photos) - just like Heidi Montag!

In a recent interview with Miss USA’s host Billy Bush, Carrie dodged the question about Michael saying: “He is a great man. We can talk about that a different day.”

Olympic swimmer Amanda Beard came to Michael Phelps’ defense after a photo of the 23 year-old smoking weed was published by a British tabloid. Amanda compares the kind of negative attention Michael is getting to what she went through after she posed naked for Playboy Magazine (photos here>>) before the Beijing Games.

Amanda says: “If anyone knows public scrutiny, it’s me,” the four-time Olympian said in a text message. “When I posed for Playboy, so many officials looked down on me. Michael knows he isn’t a bad person. He made a mistake. People need to get over it. I want to cheer him on in London.”

Since the controversial photos came out, Phelps has apologized to his fans, was dropped by Kellogg’s and suspended for three months by USA Swimming. Others have also showed their support to the Olympic record holder:

Gold medalist Ryan Lochte, who was one of Phelps’ teammates and main rivals in Bejing, said: “It really is kind of harsh. It’s just a picture.”

And even a rival agent came to Phelps’ defense.

“Enough is enough,” said Evan Morgenstein, who represents a large number of Olympic swimmers. “The penalty is far greater than the crime. He has said he is sorry. Let’s move on to the real problems in this country.”

Phelps is young, he made a mistake, he is taking responsibility for his actions and we really hope to see him back on his feet to the 2012 Olympic Games in London.

Cereal giant Kellogg’s has dropped swimming giant/legend/Olympian record holder Michael Phelps as an endorser of their products in the wake of Phelps bonehead decision to take a marijuana bong hit in front of a camera.

Kellogg Co. said Thursday that it will drop its endorsement deal with Olympic swimmer Michael Phelps following his acknowledgment he inhaled from a marijuana pipe.

The 23-year-old swimming star has apologized for his “regrettable” behavior and “bad judgment” after a photo appeared Sunday in the British tabloid News of the World that showed Phelps inhaling from a marijuana pipe.

Phelps won’t be going broke anytime soon though.  Almost everyone of his other sponsors are standing behind him and not taking action to end or void their deals.

Most of his major sponsors, such as Visa Inc., Speedo, luxury Swiss watchmaker Omega and sports beverage PureSport’s maker Human Performance Labs, stood by the athlete following the news, even if they didn’t condone his behavior.

Michael had to assume the hammer would drop at some point.  He likely won’t even notice this with all of the other money he has made and continues to rake in.  USA Swimming on Thursday also took action by banning Phelps from competitions for three months.

USA Swimming has suspended the great Michael Phelps for three months in regard to the photo of him taking a hit off of a bong.  The federation admitted that no doping rules were violated, but that they still needed to send a message to Phelps and others.

“This is not a situation where any anti-doping rule was violated, but we decided to send a strong message to Michael because he disappointed so many people, particularly the hundreds of thousands of USA Swimming member kids who look up to him as a role model and a hero,” the Colorado Springs-based federation said in a statement.

“Michael has voluntarily accepted this reprimand and has committed to earn back our trust,” the statement said.

Phelps had to know disciplinary action would be coming from somewhere regarding this incident.  This incident might be more bland if he had not been arrested for driving drunk after the 2004 Olympics.  Instead we have to start questioning the maturity and decisions of Phelps.

After winning 8 gold medals in the 2008 Olympic Games, Michael Phelps celebrated it like a champion. Phelps was just behaving like a normal 23 year-old guy at a house party at the University Of South Carolina in Columbia when he was caught with a glass bong usually used to smoke cannabis.

The compromising photos were publish in a British tabloid, which forced Michael to make a statement and apologize for his actions today.

Phelps said: “I engaged in behavior which was regrettable and demonstrated bad judgment. I’m 23 years old and despite the successes I’ve had in the pool, I acted in a youthful and inappropriate way, not in a manner people have come to expect from me. For this, I am sorry. I promise my fans and the public it will not happen again.”

Phelps is young, he was partying and he made one small mistake. He took responsibility for his actions instead of just denying the whole thing so Phelps sure deserves some respect.

Despite photos to the contrary (like this one of the alleged couple at the Los Angeles International Airport), Michael Phelps is denying that he is dating huge chested Caroline Pal. He says that the girl in this pic was put there by photographers as a Caroline lookalike to make it seem like they were together. Very clever!

“[The photographers] pose the girl up next to me as I get out of the car, and she follows me in. I was like, ‘Oh wow, you guys are pretty original - pose somebody next to me to make it look like we’re together!’”

Phelps said he “never [saw the woman in question] before in my life!”

So what about all those other pictures of them mugging down at Vegas clubs? Guess he was just having some bachelor fun afterall.

Michael Phelps is reportedly completely in love a cocktail waitress he met while celebrating his Olympic glory in Las Vegas. Phelps recently took his new girlfriend, Caroline “Caz” Pal, 26, to spend Thanksgiving with his family.

“She’s there [in Maryland] meeting his family for the first time,” a source close to Pal tells People. It’s serious!! Meeting the parents is the first big scary step in every relationship.

After his amazing 8 gold-medal achievement at the Beijing Olympic Games this year, Michael Phelps was nominated Sportsman of the Year by the Sports Illustrated Magazine. We have to agree with the magazine’s choice, Phelps set a new gold medal record in Olympic’s history.

“Honestly, I feel like the same person I’ve been my whole life,” Michael said at a recent photo session where he posed for the Sports Illustrated cover. “I’m doing what I love. I was able to accomplish what I wanted to accomplish this year. It’s been a dream come true of a year, and I definitely couldn’t ask to change anything.”

Sports Illustrated cover is a bit awkward, I wonder if they were trying to make Michael’s face look a little more pleasant to the eye… I say they failed miserably! Haven’t they heard about paper bags?? It’s cheaper than Photoshop!

Congrats to Michael!! We sure hope this new fame and fortune doesn’t go to his head and he continues to set new goals and makes us proud!

Michael Phelps, the greatest Olympian of all-time, announced this morning that he is donating part of his $1 million bonus for breaking Mark Spitz’s record of 7 gold medals to start a swimming foundation to help the sport grow across the United States.

This morning, the 23-year-old Baltimorean told NBC’s “Today Show” host Matt Lauer that he will travel to eight cities in the United States to promote swimming among children.

The brief TV announcement did not address whether his plans to promote swimming would involve buying North Baltimore Aquatic Club’s Meadowbrook pool. Last month, Phelps told NBC’s Nightly News that he and coach Bob Bowman had bought a pool in Baltimore and were looking to change the sport of swimming. Bowman was named NBAC’s chief executive officer and is expected to start the job this month.

I am glad to see Michael is using his fame and money to try to help his sport grow.  Many of us growing up were unaware that swimming was even a sport or something you could do professionally.

I got this cartoon in an email earlier tonight.  As you can see Olympic swimming legend Micheal Phelps has been super seedy speedy swimmer since just before conception.

Earlier this week it was rumored here on Bumpshack that Olympic swimmer Amanda Beard was one of two women dating 14-time gold medal swimmer Michael Phelps, the other woman being Lily Donaldson (photos). Well we can mark one of these women off of Michael’s black book.

Beard has responded to the rumors and in a not-so-nice way to Phelps when asked if they were dating:

“Ew, no.”

“I have really good taste,” she continued. “He’s not really my type, personally.”

I have a feeling the 26-year old Beard views Phelps more as her little brother and didn’t mean anything personal by it. Either that or they did date and it didn’t go so well.
