Miss Texas Crystle Stewart is the winner of the Miss USA 2008 pageant that was broadcast live on Friday night in Las Vegas. Stewart beat out Leah Lavaiano from Mississippi. Congrats to all of the finalists and hopefully they can avoid staying out of trouble and away from scandals in the months to follow.

Miss Tennessee Haily Laine Brown

Here is a quick look at the Top 15 Contestants on the Miss USA 2008 Pageant live from Las Vegas, Nevada. Bumpshack is pulling for Miss Tennessee Hailey Laine Brown and Miss Indiana Brittany Mason.

I was the judge of a national Miss Teen pageant a few years back that Brittany was the winner of. She is a very genuine, down to earth and a very girl. In other words, not your typical pageant girl.

Katie Rees has accepted a plea deal and agreed to pay fines for five misdemeanor traffic violations. Since she agreed to the deal the prosecutors dropped the resisting arrest charge.

Katherine N. “Katie” Rees, 23, a former Miss Nevada USA, avoided trial by pleading no contest to speeding, operating a motor vehicle without proof of insurance and driving with an expired registration, a suspended license and suspended registration.She agreed to pay up to $1,312 in fines.

Rees rose to fame back in 2006 when extremely racy photos (see here) ended up on the internet.  Rees lost her crown in the wake of the scandal.

Miss Michigan Kirsten Haglund is the new Miss America for 2008. Haglund, lipstick from ear-to-ear, was all smiles and tears after winning the beauty pageant on Saturday night.

She is a 19-year-old college student at the University of Cincinnati’s College of Conservatory of Music. She hopes to one day have a career on Broadway.

1. Kumari Fulbright - Star-light, star-bright as this beauty contestant was arrested on five felony charges of armed robbery, aggravated robbery, kidnapping and two charges of aggravated assault with a gun.
2. Nick Nolte - Back in 2002 Nolte was arrested for driving under the influence in California.  He was also booked for failing to take a shower for two weeks straight.
3. James Brown - The Godfather of Soul was arrested on domestic abuse charges after pushing his wife, Tommie Rea Brown, the the floor during an argument.

Scandalous sexual photos of Miss France Valerie Bergue have caused a shock in Europe and with pageant officials but they have backed down and decided to let Miss France keep her crown and title.

Valerie Begue won her title three weeks ago. Then, some old glamour pictures were published, prompting calls for her sacking for contravening the contest’s strict rules on provocative images.

But the Miss France organisers have now backed down.

“I’m so happy to keep my crown,” said Valerie. “I thank you, Madame de Fontenay. I thank you and all those who have supported me.”

I think the norm is for pageant girls to have suggestive past photographs according to pageant stories from the last two years.

Newly crowned Miss Belgium, Alizee Poulicek, was booed by many in attendance after she answered a judges question in French instead of Dutch.  Poulicek speaks French, English and Czech but not Dutch.

After she failed to answer a question in elementary Dutch and switched to French during Saturday night’s competition, 20-year-old Alizee Poulicek was booed by some of the 3,400 fans in Antwerp, the heart of Dutch-speaking Flanders.

In a country that has been without a government for nearly 200 days because of continued strife between Dutch- and French-speaking parties, the beauty queen’s linguistic abilities has taken on larger significance.

Sergeant Jill Stevens of 1st Battalion, 211th Aviation Regiment from the Utah National Guard has been crowned Miss Utah giving Mormons something to be excited about this Christmas season.  She served in Afghanistan back in 2o04.

But Stevens will tell you that photos have where she is making faces and making others laugh has always been more her style. Sgt. Jill Stevens is a combat medic with the 211th Aviation Group. She deployed to Afghanistan in 2004. “Loved every minute of it,” she says. “There’s been some hard times, but it has taught me a lot. You’ve got to grow and learn from everything…Taking care of soldiers whenever they got sick. We did get rocket attacked often. Took care of shrapnel wounds and did a lot of IVs.”

Stevens is a true American hero. She shows that one doesn’t have to be one dimensional.  She gave and sacrificed for her country and I know that millions of Americans will be pulling for her in the 2008 Miss America pageant

The state of California has goofed again.  This time they gave the title of Miss California to the wrong woman.  The newly crowned Miss California is Raquel Beezley from Barstow.  Miss Christina Silva was originally given the title before she gave it up under pressure.  All the confusion was due to a simple accounting error.  It is just the latest scandal for Donald Trump and his pageant kingdom.

Raquel Beezley, 21, was awarded the title of Miss California after organizers of the Nov. 25 Miss California pageant discovered an apparent accounting error that led to a shake up in the order. Christina Silva, 24, the declared the winner of the annual state beauty pageant, relinquished the title to Beezley, the second runner-up, after feeling pressure to step down.

“They never could explain their accounting error, but told me that if I didn’t give up my crown to Miss Barstow, my personal integrity could be questioned, and my career could potentially suffer,� she said.

The error, first reported by the celebrity TV show “Extra,� is the latest problem to beset Donald Trump’s Miss Universe Organization that controls the Miss Teen USA and Miss USA pageants.

The pageant’s state director, Keith Lewis, said several judges questioned the results of the competition at the Orpheum Theater in Los Angeles. Lewis said the error was discovered the next day after the ballots were opened and recounted. “It was a simple human error,� Lewis said Monday.

How can they let this happen?  I thought the reason they hired the experts from the big accounting firms to tally results is to make sure this happened.  The title should have remained with the first woman and the pageant officials should have had to shoulder and take blame for the mistake.   Donald Trump and company are about to feel the heat once again

Britney Spears should find solace in the fact that she is not the only ditzy blond that MTV took advantage of during their VMA telecast on Sunday night.  MTV found no guilt in taking advantage of Miss South Carolina Teen Lauren Upton.

Upton is the teen pageant contestant who added to everyones stereotype of pageant girls at the Miss Teen USA pageant with her most confusing answer to a judges question (video).

She looked even worse last night with her brief cameo during the show.  She is getting her fifteen minutes of fame but at what price to her ego in the future?  You never know though, it worked well for Anna Nicole Smith.

Miss South Carolina Teen USA Lauren Caitlin Upton didn’t win Miss Teen USA and that is a shame because she could have used the scholarship money for college or at least hopefully a junior college.

Her response is painful and rather funny but let’s all remember she is still a very young girl and was under a lot of pressure…especially standing next to Mario Lopez. I mean she has been watching him in Saved By the Bell re-runs for at least half her life.

She will be on the Today show today (Tuesday August 28th)

Hilary Carol Cruz was crowned Miss Teen USA on Friday night.  Cruz competed at Miss Teen Colorado and is 18-years-old.

Miss Teen Colorado Hilary Carol Cruz received her crown from outgoing Miss Teen USA Katie Blair at the conclusion of the two-hour competition at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium.

Cruz hopes to become a journalist and be a better role model for the pageant after a turbelent year for outcoming Miss Teen USA Katie Blair.

Miss Teen Louisiana, Logan Brook, from Amite, Louisiana, is the youngest girl to ever participate in the Miss Teen USA pageant.

SHE IS FIFTEEN YEARS OLD.

I once upon a time lived in Louisiana and can say within a 98% certainty that Logan has been drinking for five plus years and has a mouth that could put any sailor to shame (satire). I would love to be wrong but Louisiana women are of a completely different cloth.

She could follow in the footsteps of Ali Landry who placed seventh in Miss Teen USA in 1990. Ali went on to become Miss USA in 1996. The first contestant ever to win Miss USA after competing in Miss Teen USA. She finished sixth in the Miss Universe pageant held that same year in Las Vegas.

Officials of the Miss New Jersey pageant say they are unfazed by the naughty blackmail photos of Miss New Jersey Amy Polumbo according to Fox News.

Three of the pageant’s five board members told The Post Tuesday that they’ve examined secretly mailed pictures of Polumbo (taken from Facebook.com and sent by a group calling itself “The Committee to Save Miss America”) and don’t believe they’re offensive.As long as Polumbo, 22, had nothing to do with the vulgar captions and is not in violation of her contract, the three said, they’re on her side.

“They weren’t bad at all, but the captions on the pictures were hurtful,” said board secretary Mark Soifer.

Miss New Jersey Amy Polumbo received another packet of blackmail photos of her over the weekend. The blackmailer threatened to release the original and additional photos unless she resigns her crown.

Supposedly the photos show Polumbo in some compromising positions and were at one point on her Facebook page. Polumbo and her rep’s insist there is nothing wrong or immoral about the photos.

As I said on Friday, all she has to do is release the photos and put the scandal to bed if they are truly not that bad.

If the photos aren’t that bad then Polumbo should just release them. That way it’s a non-story and the blackmailer has no leverage then. However, I think she is enjoying the fame and having her name in the news (imagine that with a pageant girl) that has come with this story.

The photos are bad and damaging or we would have seen them by now. It is also quite possible that Polumbo has created the story herself to gain nationwide attention. Who was Amy Polumbo before this story broke?

She is meeting with Miss America officials to decide what to do.

Polumbo was crowned Miss Seashore Line on the local level that allowed her to compete in the Miss New Jersey pageant. Her platform ironically enough is internet safety.

Another pageant beauty scandal is growing. This time it involves Miss New Jersey Amy Polumbo and sexy photos she had on her Facebook page in the past. The captions on the photos are troubling Polumbo the most according to her attorney.

Miss New Jersey, 22-year-old Amy Polumbo, announced Thursday that someone was trying to blackmail her with old photographs and a demand that she give up her crown by Friday. Her refusal to give in and speculation about the photos made her a star of the moment - at least in the world of tabloid newspapers and Internet gossip blogs.

But by Friday Polumbo’s lawyer, Anthony Caruso, said it was actually captions on the photographs that troubled the beauty queen, not racy images.

Caruso won’t say what the photos show, except to say it’s nothing especially revealing - certainly nothing more revealing than the bikini Polumbo wore during the Miss New Jersey competition. He also declined to reveal what the captions said.

Meanwhile, the Wagner College student didn’t step down. And the photos - and captions - that caused all the commotion didn’t appear to have been made public.
