Portia DeGeneres To Become First Same-Sex Partner On Dancing With The Stars
Actress Portia de Rossi, who decided to legally change her name to Portia DeGeneres after marrying talk show host Ellen DeGeneres, might have the honor to be one-half of the first same-sex couple on the next season of ABC’s Dancing With The Stars.
In a recent interview with Ryan Seacrest, he revealed that DWTS is finally ready to have a same-sex pair competing on the show and Portia is right on top of their list for celebrity dancers.
The 37 year-old actress did not immediately dismissed the idea and confessed it would be an incredible opportunity since she used to be a ballet dancer. Portia confessed that she would actually need time to think about the offer – it’s definitely a “maybe”!
“They’re planning to feature a same-sex couple. You’re at the top of the list,” Ryan told her. “Goodness, you really do break news,” Portia replied startled.
“I’m not gonna pass, let me think about it,” she told him. “I used to be a ballet dancer, it’s not completely a pass. You never know.”
The Israeli version of DWTS will feature the first same-sex pair in the worldwide history of the show. If the test is well accepted by the public, US will be the next country to get rid of certain social myths.
Portia, who tied the knot with Ellen back in 2008, is currently busy promoting her new book entitled “Unbearable Lightness”. The actress also feels more mature and more honest and open about her sexuality.
“Being with Ellen has encouraged me to help people if I possibly can,” she said. “I felt like there was this horrible time in my life and I wanted to come clean about it. It’s my second coming out.”
Would you like to see Portia on Dancing With The Stars? Which girl would you like her to dance with? DWTS would probably have to find another pro ballroom dancer who would accept the challenge, but I’d really love to see Lacey Schwimmer being partnered with Portia.
